Ellendale, three D6 teams advance

Napoleon, Kidder County, Ellendale and Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock won opening-round games at the Region 3 tournament in Hazelton Monday night. Top seed and third-ranked Napoleon rolled up 51 points in rolling past Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier in the tournament opener.

Napoleon, Kidder County, Ellendale and Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock won opening-round games at the Region 3 tournament in Hazelton Monday night.

Top seed and third-ranked Napoleon rolled up 51 points in rolling past Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier in the tournament opener.

Sheridon Dewald scored 23 points in 20 minutes to lead the Imperials, who led 51-14 at halftime. Shania Gross added 15 points and Brenna Schmidt 10.

Kelsey Feist had 18 points to lead the Rebels. Hallie Anderson followed with 15 and seven rebounds.

In a low-scoring Game 2, Kidder County scored 16 first-quarter points and went on to a 38-21 win over LaMoure-Litchville-Marion.

Sadie Rohrich topped all scorers with 14 points for the Pirates.

Tasha Piehl’s seven topped the Loboes as both teams shot under 35 percent.

Ellendale hung 28 points on the board in the third quarter as the Cardinals rolled over Central Prairie 66-37.

Isabel Wedel and Madilyn Bommersbach each had 15 points for the Cardinals. KaLee Hack and Dacey Fuller added matching 11-point games.

Jordan Spitzer’s 10 topped the Firebirds.

Pingree-Buchanan-Kensal led 18-8 after one quarter, but couldn’t hold the lead as Linton-Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock rallied to win the nightcap 55-52.

Jenna Van Ray, Amanda Beckley and Jordan Thomas had identical 10-point games for the Rebels. Beckley also had 12 rebounds.

Alexandra Umber led the Lions with 15 points. Kaitlyn Nieuwsma added 11.

Region 4

Jacey Engelhorn and Kayla Hochhalter each scored 15 points as Carrington held off a Rolla rally to advance at the Region 4 tournament with a 44-41 triumph in Devils Lake.

The Cardinals held a 14-11 advantage at halftime and were up 37-27 after three quarters, but were held to only seven points in the final frame.

Rolla was paced by Alli Vandal’s 17 points.

The Cardinals move on to face Benson County in today’s semifinal, set for 6 p.m. North Star and Lakota-Adams-Edmore meet in the late semifinal.

Benson County used 19 points from Andrea Jorgenson to down New Rockford-Sheyenne 49-23 in the first game of the day.

NR-S, which trailed 27-12 at halftime, was led by Lacey Grann’s 11 points.

Midkota’s season came to an end after falling to North Star 60-58. The Mustangs led 19-11 and 28-25 after the first two breaks, but the game was tied at 41 going into the fourth quarter.

North Star’s Allie Heisler had 19 points, while Sarah Hagler added 14.

Saddie Harding paced Midkota with 17. Shaye Ronningen and Emily Berge added 17 and 11, respectively.

Lakota-Adams-Edmore downed Rolette-Wolford 69-53 to advance. Jamestown College signee Ashtin Freije scored a game-high 23 points.
