Law enforcement officials reported that icy roads in the area led to numerous accidents and vehicles in ditches on Tuesday.

As of 9 p.m. on Tuesday the North Dakota Highway Patrol in Jamestown responded to eight motorist assists with vehicles in the ditch and one accident, according to Sgt. John Johnson, dispatch supervisor at the Law Enforcement Center. The Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office responded to two motorist assists for vehicles in the ditch and two accidents.

All are believed to have been weather related, Johnson said. All also were on highways or Interstate 94.

“It’s kind of this time of the year, it gets a little warm, enough to heat up the road, snow blows across it, melts and then it freezes,” said Chad Kaiser, Stutsman County sheriff.

Kaiser advised motorists to drive in control for conditions.
