A Montana man sustained incapacitating injuries in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday on Interstate 94 east of Jamestown that caused an estimated $24,000 in damages, according to the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident happened at 10:54 p.m. near mile marker 264.
David Kennedy, 20, Billings, Mont., was driving a 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck eastbound on I-94. Glen T. Giese, 55, Fargo, was driving a 2009 Freightliner westbound on I-94.
Kennedy was traveling at a high rate of speed and road conditions were icy, the Sheriff’s Office said. He lost control of his pickup and entered the median. His truck rolled four times before striking Geise’s vehicle. Kennedy’s truck came to rest on the driver’s side in the eastbound lane, trapping Kennedy inside.
After being extracted from the Chevrolet Kennedy was transported by Jamestown Area Ambulance to the Jamestown Regional Medical Center, and was then flown to Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
Kennedy was not wearing a seat belt. Giese was wearing his seat belt.
Damage was estimated at $20,000 to the Chevrolet and $2,500 to the Freightliner.
The speed of Kennedy’s pickup was the main contributing factor with icy road conditions, the Sheriff’s Office said.
