Optimist Club honors athletes

Jamestown College’s Bridget Schuneman and Jared Sutherland were both selected as athletes of the week by the Jamestown Optimist Club. Schuneman, a senior on the Jimmie women’s basketball team, collected 19 points, 4 rebounds and a block during a 70-54 victory over Menlo (Calif.) in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.

Schuneman, a senior on the Jimmie women’s basketball team, collected 19 points, 4 rebounds and a block during a 70-54 victory over Menlo (Calif.) in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.

In the Jimmies’ quarterfinal loss to Eastern Oregon, the Lino Lakes, Minn. native was 6-of-10 from the field and produced 17 points and 7 rebounds. For the tournament, Schuneman hit 14-of-25 from the field (56 percent), scored 36 points and pulled in 11 rebounds.

Sutherland, a senior on the Jimmie men’s basketball team, scored 10 points and cleared 4 rebounds in his last college game, a 74-56 loss to highly-ranked Cardinal Stritch (Wisc.) in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament in Branson, Missouri.

Sutherland, of Grand Rapids, Minn., was coming off an ankle injury that kept him out of the A.I.I. championship game.
