Letter to the editor: Lawmakers should not use Twitter while in session

Legislators should be paying attention to or studying legislation that is being presented to them, especially while the House is in session. If there needs to be reporting from the floor of the House while it is in session, shouldn’t that be done by the media?
Representing the people of Jamestown and North Dakota is a very serious and important job. I don’t think using social media to tweet, text or chat with friends is an appropriate use of the short time they have to conduct the people’s business in Bismarck.
I may out of step with the times, but there should not even have to be a rule against such behavior. It should be common courtesy and respect for the important job they are entrusted with.
