Fargo Shanley boys, Bismarck Century girls win state A championships

Jacobson gets 2000th point, breaks Boschee's Class A scoring record
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A.J. Jacobson scored 27 points Saturday to lead Fargo Shanley to a 73-54 win over Bismarck in the championship game of the North Dakota boys Class A basketball tournament.

Jacobson, the Mr. Basketball winner for North Dakota, finished the night with 2,002 points, breaking the state Class A record of 1,996 points held by Valley City's Jeff Boschee.

Jacobson added 12 rebounds, three assists and three steals and took over in the second half as the Deacons (21-4) won their third state title and first since 1997 and 1998.

Patrick Strom had 17 points and Dylan Alderman 12 for Shanley.

Troy Hausauer had 17 points and seven rebounds for Bismarck (16-9). Taylor Schafer had 14 points.

On the girls side, Hannah Larson scored 22 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, helping Bismarck Century defeat West Fargo 73-39 Saturday in the championship game of the North Dakota girls Class A basketball tournament.

The Patriots (22-3) jumped out to a big early lead over the Packers and cruised to another title. The championship was Century's second straight and third in four seasons.

Macy Lynch added 16 points and Jordyn Jossart 12 for Century, which opened up a quick 18-3 lead and built a 41-14 halftime lead.

Lexi Lennon led West Fargo (21-4) with 10 points.

Century also won titles in 1990, 2010 and 2012.
