Residents should be proud of their choice to elect Rep. Jessica Haak, D- Jamestown, to be their representative.

I was surprised to see Rep. Al Carlson’s letter in Friday’s issue of The Sun. I am aware of the incident with Haak and a comment she made, but thought it was water under the bridge. She was held accountable and really handled herself well, thus learning from her error and doing all she could to remedy it.

Carlson needs to “move on” from it as well, using his maturity and experience to also grow from the incident.

However, it seems he is targeting Haak on a certain level. Regarding his comments on the use of Twitter and social media, he was simply wrong. The advancements of technology and social networking are a reality and a very beneficial way for those elected to keep us (the public) informed on happenings. In recent visits with my peers (young professionals), they have expressed gratitude and appreciation for updates that are provided, as often they are not able to keep up with the daily happenings of the Legislature.

Carlson needs to focus as well and not concern himself with things he does not understand or simply cannot appreciate. Times are changing; he should too. His article can only serve as a distraction and create more controversy, which is not becoming of a majority leader.
