Jimmies split final four in Ariz.

The Jamestown College softball team was looking to exit last week’s Tucson Invitational Games in Arizona with a winning record, but the team ran into No. 1-ranked buzz saw California State University-San Marcos on Sunday.
The Cal State Cougars defeated the Jimmies 11-2 and 6-1, improving to 26-4 on the season, while the Jimmies left The Grand Canyon State with an even record of 6-6 to start the year.
Stats of the Jimmies’ games vs. the Cougars were not available at press time.
Jamestown College improved to 6-4 on Saturday in Tucson, defeating Alfred University (N.Y.) 7-6 and the University of British Columbia 9-5. The Jimmies will face Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D. for a pair of games on Wednesday, weather permitting.

The Jimmies clawed out of a 5-1 deficit after three innings against the Saxons on Saturday, scoring six unanswered runs by the end of the sixth to hang on to a one-point victory.
Rachel Ivelia and Kristi Michaud made the loudest noise at the plate for the Jimmies. Ivelia went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and two RBIs, while Michaud went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Kate Johnson posted another double for the Jimmies, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Courtney Van Bussche swiped a pair of bases for Jamestown College.
DJ Johnson got the win on the mound, pitching 3 1/3 innings of relief work. Emily Snow started for the Jimmies, but only made it into the fourth inning after allowing five earned runs on seven hits.
Jimmies 9, British Columbia 5
Jamestown College was forced into climbing out of another hole in the second game it played on Saturday, but a 6-run bottom of the fifth sealed the 4-run victory over British Columbia.
DJ Johnson started in the circle for Jimmies but didn’t record an out in the first after allowing three earned runs on four hits. Emily Snow came in and pitched all seven innings to earn the win.
The Jimmies trailed 4-1 after three, but scored twice in the fourth before the big fifth inning. Kristi Michaud went a perfect 3-for-3, belting two doubles and driving in three runs, while Rachel Ivelia stayed hot going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Courtney Van Den Bussche’s 5 RBI against Purdue North Central (3/12) was a career high. In 2 previous seasons as a Jimmie, Van Den Bussche had a grand total of 3 RBI ... Through 8 games Kate Johnson has been hit by a pitch 4 times. She was hit by 6 pitches all of 2012 … Emily Snow earned her first win as a Jimmie since April 25, 2011 with a victory over Dordt on 3/12. Snow transferred to Sierra (Calif.) College for the 2012 season and returned to JC for the 2013 spring semester … Autumn Wang became the first Jimmie freshman to debut with a base hit since Celene Eccles accomplished the feat in 2010 … Allison Roper’s 5 outfield putouts against Lubbock Christian on 3/14 were the most for a Jimmie since she had 8 putouts vs. Dickinson State on 4/21/12 ... After drawing 9 bases on balls in 44 games last season, Kelsie DeBroeck has already walked 5 times in 7 games this season ... Hattie Fullmer’s 2 steals against Dordt on 3/12 equaled her 2012 season total ... Four of KRISTI MICHAUD’s five hits this season have been doubles. Michaud doubled 3 times all of last season. .. With her double against Avila on 3/13, Brook Rheault became the first Jimmie freshman since Courtney Van Den Buscche in 2011 to have an extra-base hit for her first college hit ... Megan Heriot hit her first career double against Purdue North Central on 3/12 ... Rachel Ivelia stole 3 bases in the first 4 games of 2013, a number she didn’t reach until her 33rd game of 2012 ... Sarah Heinemann homered against Mount Mary on 3/11 for her first home run since 5/9/10 against Mayville State. Heinemann returns to the squad in 2013 after being away for the 2011-12 seasons.
