UND rolls in decisive game

GRAND FORKS — In a dominating, all-around fashion the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team beat Michigan Tech 6-0 Sunday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The win advances UND to the WCHA Final Five next weekend in St. Paul, Minn.

All forward lines scored goals, as did defenseman Dillson Simpson.

Clarke Saunders and Tate Maris combined for 28 saves in the shutout. UND ended with 44 shots.

Brendan O’Donnell, Corban Knight, Carter Rowney, Mitch MacMillan and Colten St. Clair also scored in the win as UND took control early and led 3-0 after one period.

Sunday night’s game was necessary because C.J. Eick’s goal late in the third period lifted Tech to a 2-1 Saturday.

Tanner Kero gave the Huskies (13-19-4) a 1-0 lead 20 seconds into the second period. The lead lasted until 14:57 of the third period when Danny Kristo scored to tie the game.

Clarke Saunders made 29 saves for North Dakota, with a high of 11 in the second period. Michigan Tech outshot North Dakota by 31.

Huskies goalie Pheonix Copley made 29 saves.
