The fire that claimed a shop building approximately three-fourths of a mile north of the Stutsman County Fairgrounds Monday evening remains under investigation, said Rick Woehl, fire chief of the Jamestown Rural Fire Department.
Three units and nine firefighters responded to the 6:45 p.m. fire Monday, and some remained to secure the scene until the fire marshal completed his investigation, which is standard procedure for the JRFD, Woehl explained.
The fire department used its people mover — a van body with a heater in it — to help those securing the scene to keep warm.
“The bulk of securing the scene was done by the (Stutsman County) sheriff’s office. We appreciate that, and that way, we can do our thing,” Woehl said.
There is no precise physical address for the location of the building, which was a shop in a field in a new development area.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Woehl said.
