Blue Jays' Dewald a Miss Basketball finalist

BISMARCK (AP) — Jamestown’s Kyra Dewald is one of five finalists for the North Dakota Miss Basketball Award.

BISMARCK (AP) — Jamestown’s Kyra Dewald is one of five finalists for the North Dakota Miss Basketball Award.

Dewald, a 5-foot-5 guard committed to Jamestown College, averaged 22 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals in helping the Blue Jays to a 19-6 record and fifth-place finish at the state tournament last weekend.

Hannah Larson of state champion Bismarck Century and Kira Larson of Fargo North are the other finalists from Class A.

Grant County’s Ashley Bentz and Hillsboro-Central Valley’s Taylor Henningsgard represent Class B schools and round out the group.

Miss Basketball will be named Saturday. The award goes to the top senior player in voting by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Hannah Larson, a 6-foot forward, averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and three blocks.

Kira Larson, a 6-3 forward, averaged 16 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks.

Bentz is averaging 21 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Henningsgard, a 5-7 guard, averaged 14 points, four rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
