Sertoma Club holds blood drive

United Blood Services said Loren Lind and the Sertoma Club organized a blood drive held in Jamestown Jan. 7-8. A total of 105 people volunteered to donate and 86 were able to give. Twenty-four of the donors donated on the automated 2RBC machine, which collects two units of red blood cells at once. Five donors gave blood for their first time.

“With the combination of several people with colds and flu as well as the time frame just after the holiday season, United Blood Services has collected less blood donations the past few weeks,” said Rob Miller, donor recruitment representative from Fargo. “The tremendous support of the people from Jamestown and the surrounding area helped restock the shelves with precious units.”

Those who assisted with the drive were KQDJ and KSJB Radio and McDonalds. Space to hold the drive was provided by R.M. Stoudt.

Donations will help meet the blood needs of many patients in 73 area hospitals served by United Blood Services.
