Mandan annex attempt denied

A judge has rejected Mandan’s move to annex property next to a new junior high school. Administrative Law Judge Allen Hoberg said the area still is rural, and he said the expansion could hurt property owners.

MANDAN (AP) — A judge has rejected Mandan’s move to annex property next to a new junior high school.

Administrative Law Judge Allen Hoberg said the area still is rural, and he said the expansion could hurt property owners.

City officials, who expect development around the school, saw annexation as a way to provide streets and other services.

Attorney Bill Delmore represents 19 property owners opposing the annexation. He said his clients are relieved by the ruling. The dispute over the plan has been going on for more than a year.

Mandan Mayor Ken LaMont said the property eventually will be part of the city, but said officials must live with the judge’s decision.
