Buddy Poppy is a nation-wide VFW program that has raised money to benefit veterans and their dependents for more than 80 years.
VFW Buddy Poppies are assembled by disabled and needy veterans in VA Hospitals, with donations used by local chapters. Some of the programs supported by Post 760 include the Veteran’s Relief Fund, North Dakota Veterans Home, North Dakota Veterans Cemetery and the Ladies Auxiliary cancer research program.
Poppies were chosen as a remembrance of fallen soldiers after a poem written during WWI by Col. John McCrae of Canada, “In Flander’s Field,” which contains the lines: “In Flanders Fields the poppies blow, Between the crosses, row on row.”
