Construction zones to get additional patrol

North Dakota’s transportation department says $50,000 has been allotted to pay for additional law enforcement patrols in construction zones this year.

BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota’s transportation department says $50,000 has been allotted to pay for additional law enforcement patrols in construction zones this year.

Transportation director Francis Ziegler says there have been 10 crashes in construction zones as of May 15.

The agency says there were 197 crashes in construction zones on North Dakota highways last year, resulting in 49 injuries and one fatality.

Highway Patrol Capt. Eric Pederson says troopers issued 1,208 citations while working overtime in work zones last year.
