MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota football coach Tim Brewster’s son has decided to leave the program. Quarterback Clint Brewster will transfer to another school after redshirting his freshman season.
Included in a Tuesday afternoon announcement of the news by the Gophers was a prepared statement from the coach. Tim Brewster says, “I respect and admire Clint’s decision to further his education and play football elsewhere.”
Clint Brewster committed to Illinois, but changed his mind and signed with Minnesota last year. That was less than a month after his father accepted the job. The prospect of playing time dimmed significantly, though, when Adam Weber was named the starting quarterback as a freshman. The Gophers also added one of the nation’s top recruits at that position when Indiana prep star MarQueis Gray signed in February.
