Letter to the editor: Wal-Mart’s presence is a threat to local businesses
In response to and agreement with Logan C. Adams’ column, I am afraid Jamestown will go the route of all the small towns we used to see driving south into Texas. The wonderful little small businesses, mom-and-pop stores, cafes with home-cooked meals all disappeared into the dust and left towns lifeless and empty. We usually encountered a Wal-Mart in the area, which probably caused their sad demise.By: Eleanor Glenney, Jamestown, The Jamestown Sun
In response to and agreement with Logan C. Adams’ column, I am afraid Jamestown will go the route of all the small towns we used to see driving south into Texas. We usually encountered a Wal-Mart in the area, which probably caused their sad demise.
On the other hand, I can see it is difficult for the “Now Generation” to resist all the exciting products on the shelves. Adams identified the wave of consumerism that engulfs us and makes it so hard to resist.
Good luck to our development council who will be fighting an uphill battle to keep businesses or entice new ones.
