As part of the city’s 125th anniversary this weekend, the Jamestown Speedway welcomes the NLRA Late Models for the series’ only stop here until the Stock Car Stampede.
The driver-owned circuit based out of Grand Forks races in Minnesota, North Dakota and Canada during the season and many of the top drivers will be in town Saturday night at 7 p.m.
Canadian Mike Balcaen, currently second in the points standings, is among the drivers expected to run. Matt Aukland, the 2007 Late Models season champ will also have his car here along with other leading North Dakota drivers like Brad Seng, currently fourth in points, Ryan Corbett, who is third, Steve Anderson and Joey Pederson all of Grand Forks.
Well known South Dakota drivers Kent Arment, Curt Gelling and others will also fill up the field. Bismarck’s Paul Mueller and Blaine Doppler along with Howie Scholl of Fargo will also be at the track competing in the WISSOTA-sanctioned event.
All regular classes will also be in action.
The point standings are tight at the top in both the Bomber and Modified classes.
Landon Becker tops the Bomber list with 299 points, but has Matt Gumke (294) and Daniel Muske (293) nipping at his bumper.
John Corell and Randy Tarno are locked in a tight Mods duel. The Jamestown drivers are separated by just four points. Corell as 301 to Tarno’s 297. Mark Trautner (291) and Corey Seckerson (290) are just 10 and 11 points off the pace, respectively.
Several of the Late Model drivers will jump into the Mod action this weekend and pull double duty.
Spencer Johnson has stretched his Streets Stocks lead to 22 over Royce Jawaski, 277-255. Rusty Kollman and Kelly Hagel each have 250 points.
Ryan Fike (306) sits atop the Midwest Mod standings, holding a 16-point advantage over fellow Jamestown driver Josh Eberhardt (290).
