Fourth is reason to remember, celebrate
For many Jamestown families, the past 12 months haven’t been easy. Gas prices are high, the economy is weak and each day it seems, comes with more challenges. In addition, many fathers, sons, mothers and daughters were or continue to serve overseas.
For many Jamestown families, the past 12 months haven’t been easy.
Gas prices are high, the economy is weak and each day it seems, comes with more challenges. In addition, many fathers, sons, mothers and daughters were or continue to serve overseas.
But on Friday, the birth of our nation, we will have much to celebrate.
In addition to 125 years of the city’s existence, Jamestown also has 104 members of its 817th Engineering Company (Sapper) home and safe.
We also celebrate veterans Friday in the form of the All Veterans Memorial Wall dedication to remember those who gave their time, service and sometimes the ultimate sacrifice to our country.
The veterans wall at Fort Seward honors 339 prisoners of war, Medal of Honor recipients and soldiers killed in action, all of whom are from North Dakota.
A ceremony for its unveiling is at 2 p.m. Friday.
In addition to grilling hotdogs, flying flags and lighting fireworks, let us pause and remember those people, both past and present, who ensure our safety, freedom and reasons to celebrate.
Have a safe Fourth of July.
