Chorney, Hunt ink deals with NHL, NFL teams

Two former standout college athletes in North Dakota have signed professional deals. University of North Dakota All-American hockey defenseman Taylor Chorney agreed in principle to terms with the Edmonton Oilers a month ago but was unable to sign until the start of the NHL’s free agency period this week. Chorney signed a three-year deal with the club.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — Two former standout college athletes in North Dakota have signed professional deals.

University of North Dakota All-American hockey defenseman Taylor Chorney agreed in principle to terms with the Edmonton Oilers a month ago but was unable to sign until the start of the NHL’s free agency period this week. Chorney signed a three-year deal with the club.

Former North Dakota State standout football center Rob Hunt has signed a free-agent deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Hunt was a 2005 fifth-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts. He played last season with the New Orleans VooDoo of the Arena Football league.
