Fewer speeding tickets issued over holiday

Speeding tickets in North Dakota over the Fourth of July holiday were down from last year. Highway Patrol Lieutenant Mike Gerhart says officers issued 597 speeding tickets, compared to 934 last year. Seat belt citations were also down, from 195 last year to 134 this year.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — Speeding tickets in North Dakota over the Fourth of July holiday were down from last year.

Highway Patrol Lieutenant Mike Gerhart says officers issued 597 speeding tickets, compared to 934 last year. Seat belt citations were also down, from 195 last year to 134 this year.

Gerhart says he believes high gas prices forced some people to stay home and convinced other drivers to lower their speeds in an effort to improve mileage.
