Fort Yates, N.D., man sentenced for assault

A Fort Yates man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for an attack on his girlfriend. Gabriel Marshall was charged in federal court with assault of a minor resulting in serious bodily injury. He pleaded guilty in April.

BISMARCK (AP) — A Fort Yates man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for an attack on his girlfriend.

Gabriel Marshall was charged in federal court with assault of a minor resulting in serious bodily injury. He pleaded guilty in April.

The 20-year-old Marshall was accused of punching the victim, throwing her against a wall and stabbing her in the leg with a kitchen knife.

Authorities say the incident happened in July 2007 on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.
