BISMARCK (AP) — A Fargo man who fought the demolition of the former Cass County jail won’t be getting money to pay his lawyers.
John Strand asked the North Dakota Supreme Court to order Cass County to pay his legal bills. But the Supreme Court has ruled against Strand. He says his fees are more than $100,000.
Strand and a group of supporters challenged Cass County’s decision to tear down the former county jail and sheriff’s residence in April of 2003.
The demolition was delayed, and Cass County tried to force Strand to pay $39,000 to compensate for the delay. The two sides also sued each other for lawyers’ fees.
In the end, the county’s claim against Strand was thrown out and the two sides were told to pay their own lawyers.
