Meth lab busts down in North Dakota

Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the number of methamphetamine lab busts in North Dakota continues to drop. Stenehjem says 15 meth labs were busted in the first six months of the year. He says that’s a 95 percent reduction from a few years ago.

BISMARCK (AP) _ Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the number of methamphetamine lab busts in North Dakota continues to drop.

Stenehjem says 15 meth labs were busted in the first six months of the year. He says that’s a 95 percent reduction from a few years ago.

Stenehjem says the downturn can be credited to a 2005 law requiring merchants who sell cold pills with pseudoephedrine to ask customers for identification and write down the buyer’s name, address, birth date and driver’s license number.

Pseudoephedrine is a key ingredient in meth.
