LaMoure, Casselton unbeaten
Host LaMoure and Casselton are the lone two unbeatens at the state Class B American Legion baseball tournament. Both teams scored early runs in their respective wins. LaMoure got six in the second inning en route to a 9-7 win over the Minot Metros, while Casselton led 7-0 after one inning in its win over Beulah. Host LaMoure and Casselton are the lone two unbeatens at the state Class B American Legion baseball tournament.
Both teams scored early runs in their respective wins.
LaMoure got six in the second inning en route to a 9-7 win over the Minot Metros, while Casselton led 7-0 after one inning in its win over Beulah.
The two teams square off tonight at 7:30 p.m. with the winner in the driver’s seat heading into the weekend.
LaMoure 9, Minot Metros 7
Ben Watkins connected for a grand slam in LaMoure’s six-run second inning to stake Post 19 to a big early lead.
Watkins also doubled for the defending state B champions, who have yet to trail in their two wins at Townsend Field.
Chad Limesand went 3-for-4 in the win, scoring once and driving in one. Nick Tollefson went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI. Donny Schrader with three RBIs and a double, while Ben Holen had a hit and scored three times.
Cam Albertson, the second of three pitchers, got the win in relief. Holen entered in the seventh and earned the save.
Brett Fiddler was 3-for-3 with a run an RBI to lead the Metros, who outhit Post 19 11-7 in the game.
Casselton 13, Beulah 5
Casselton jumped on Beulah in a hurry, erupting for seven-first inning runs en route to a 13-5 win over in the first winner’s-bracket game of the day.
Sam Schumacher led Casselton’s 14-hit barrage, going 3-for-5 with a two-run home run. He also doubled and scored twice. Brandon Rust also had three hits, including a double, run and RBI. Lex Lunde drove in three hits, going 2-for-3. Michael Rose was 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI.
They added four runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the sixth.
Zac Frappier logged all seven on the hill for the winners, giving up five runs on five hits — only three of which were earned.
Keanon Serna clubbed a solo home run for Beulah, which committed five errors in the game.
Harvey 2, Grafton 0
Bryan Krahler kept Harvey alive with another outstanding performance on the mound.
Krahler blanked Grafton on two hits, striking out seven Grafton batters along the way. Krahler, who walked one and allowed five hits, was 2-0 at the District 7 tournament last week in Carrington.
Harvey got its two lone runs in the bottom of the third, getting RBI singles from Tanner Lorenz and Michael Leier.
Lorenz finished 2-for-3 with a double. Krahler scored the other run after walking.
Chad Demers had two of Grafton’s five hits.
Harvey faces the Minot Metros in a loser-out game today a 5 p.m.
West Fargo Aces 14, Makoti 4, (6 Innings)
Spencer Flaten, Jared Reber, Trevor Piehal, Mike Joyce and Kolby Schmidt each had two hits as the West Fargo Aces routed Makoti 14-4 in six innings in the other loser-out game.
The Aces pounded out 13 hits in the game, scoring in all six of their at bats, highlighted by a five-run fourth.
Bryce Jorgenson struck out seven Makoti batters over six solid innings.
Makoti, which committed five errors in the game, got two hits each from Drew Drosdal and Caleb Karna.
