Kelly Hagel clipped Luke Nelson for the big WISSOTA Street Stocks check on Saturday night at the Jamestown Speedway.
Sunday, it was Nelson’s turn to cash in.
In the second night of the Streets special, Nelson worked past Hagel at the midway point of the 20-lap final and led the rest of the way en route to the $1,000-to-win race.
It was the fourth win of the season for the Valley City driver, who placed second the night before. Spencer Johnson finished third, a day after coming in fourth. Rory Opp and Cory Rosen rounded out the top five.
Mike Stearns and Kelly Seckerson each went wire-to-wire to win their respective features.
Stearns, from Hecla, S.D., nosed in front from the drop of the green and never relented to win the Mods feature. It was the second win of the campaign for Hecla, who led across Mark Trautner, who won Saturday. In spots 3-4-5 were season points champion Randy Tarno, Bob Sagen and Ben Mickelson.
Jason Grimes hadn’t run his orange Midwest Mod many times this season, instead letting Kelly Seckerson have a successful summer.
Grimes got in the 99 on Sunday and took full advantage of it. The Jamestown driver never trailed and rode the clean air to a win. Rusty Kollman, who was 10th in the Streets final, finished second to Grimes in Hagel’s car. Jayson Corell, Bobby Eckerdt and Ryan Lehr rounded out the top five. Randy Klein, Saturday’s winner, was sixth.
Justin Schempp let a friend navigate his Bomber Saturday night, but was back in the pilot’s seat on Sunday. Starting fifth, Schempp needed little time to work his way to the front and on his way to his third win of the season.
Back in his car, after swapping with Ryan Widmer on Saturday, Matt Gumke finished second. Dustin Erickson, Geoff Hellman and Landon Becker came in third through fifth.
Glenn Christianson and Randy Gordon teamed to win the Road Hog race. Travis Edinger and Travis Ganser were second.
After two weeks off, the Speedway wraps up the season with the 37th annual Stock Car Stampede. The two-night show kicks off at 7 p.m. on Sept. 19, with Saturday’s action beginning at 5 p.m.
