OSHA cites companies in fatal fall in Fargo last month

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a general contractor and a subcontractor for safety violations after a worker fell down an elevator to his death in south Fargo last month.

FARGO (AP) — The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited a general contractor and a subcontractor for safety violations after a worker fell down an elevator to his death in south Fargo last month.

OSHA says the J.E. Dunn construction company, of the Minneapolis area, and Comstock Construction of Wahpeton failed to have proper safety features in place. OSHA Area Director Bruce Beelman says investigators found the cover for a roof opening was not secured or properly marked as required.

Thirty-seven-year old Timothy Solberg of Fargo died after falling 43 feet down an elevator.

The proposed fines total more than $22,000. J.E. Dunn is contesting the violations and fine. Comstock construction has not yet responded.
