Some 28,000 students at North Dakota universities have at least checked into signing up for the NotiFind System, and more than half of them are using the system, according to state officials.
The NotiFind System is a new emergency notification system that allows universities to contact students, faculty and staff members in case of emergencies by e-mail, text-messages and phone calls.
The system is mandatory for faculty and staff, but is optional for students.
We encourage all students to check into the system, and to give serious consideration to using it.
The system is designed to be used in case of a campus emergency, such as a shooting or similar incident. While we hope it never has to be used for such an incident, it remains a possibility.
But in North Dakota, the system could have more practical uses, such as notifying students if classes are canceled due to bad weather. That’s far more likely to occur than a campus shooting or other act of violence.
We encourage North Dakota students to check into NotiFind. It will be worthwhile to use the system.
