This nonprofit organization was formed to position North Dakota as a premier destination for birders and others pursuing nature-based activities, to foster good stewardship and to promote public awareness and appreciation of North Dakota’s abundance of nature-based resources. Five levels of annual membership area available from student memberships of $10 up to $100 for businesses that also includes a Web link. Membership dues help support the mission of Birding Drives Dakota but are also used to support the Annual Potholes and Prairie Birding Festival, June 3-7, 2009, in Jamestown. This festival attracts attendees from across the United States.

Since its inception in 2003, Birding Drives Dakota has successfully branded the Carrington-Jamestown areas as a world-class birding destination. Inclusion in the internationally-published book, “Fifty Places to Go Birding Before You Die Experts Share the World’s Greatest Destinations” and the New York Times bestseller, “1000 Places to See Before You Die: A Traveler’s Life List” testify to the strides the organization has made in positioning itself as a worthy birding region.
