KENMARE, N.D. (AP) — The manager of the Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge says six endangered adult whooping cranes have been spending time at the refuge and in surrounding farm fields.
Manager Dave Bolin says the big white birds were first spotted last Thursday, standing in shallow water. He says having them around for nearly five days has been exciting.
People who spot whooping cranes are asked to report the sightings to the North Dakota Game and Fish Department or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and keep a record of the date, time, location and the birds’ activity.
