Spring wheat, durum reports out

The North Dakota Wheat Commission said quality reports are now available on the 2008 U.S. hard red spring wheat and durum crops. The reports detail physical attributes and milling performance of the crops, as well as dough mixing and bread-baking properties for spring wheat and pasta processing traits for durum.

BISMARCK (AP) — The North Dakota Wheat Commission said quality reports are now available on the 2008 U.S. hard red spring wheat and durum crops.

The reports detail physical attributes and milling performance of the crops, as well as dough mixing and bread-baking properties for spring wheat and pasta processing traits for durum.

Wheat Commission marketing director Jim Peterson said the quality surveys are important in marketing wheat to customers around the world.

Spring wheat samples used in the survey come from the Dakotas, Minnesota and Montana — representing 93 percent of the nation’s spring wheat production.

Durum samples are collected from North Dakota and Montana, covering 63 percent of production.
