Two Kensal men driving trucks with cattle trailers were involved in rear-end collision Friday afternoon near Courtenay, N.D., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The patrol said Francis Harding, 70, Kensal, N.D., was driving a 1990 Dodge pickup northbound on a gravel township road about 2 miles northwest of Courtenay when he approached a spot where a farmer was burning grass in a ditch. Harding was towing a loaded cattle trailer behind him when he slowed down and drove into the smoke. Raphael Frwonfelter, 65, Kensal, was driving a 1995 Ford pickup with a loaded cattle trailer behind him and also slowed down and entered the smoke before rear-ending Harding. The trucks both stopped without further damage.
The crash did about $3,500 in damage to the rear end of Harding’s trailer and his pickup’s bed when the trailer came undone, the patrol said. Frwonfelter’s truck had about $7,500 in damage to its front end.
Both men were not wearing seat belts.
