Patrol announces results of emphasis

The Southwest Region of the North Dakota Highway Patrol conducted an enforcement emphasis on right of way violations during the month of October. Last month, troopers issued 281 citations for right-of-way violations, which include failing to stop at a stop sign or red light or failing to yield at an intersection.

Last month, troopers issued 281 citations for right-of-way violations, which include failing to stop at a stop sign or red light or failing to yield at an intersection.

“We see some of our heaviest rural traffic during this season due to agriculture, hunting seasons and school being in session,” said Capt. Eric Pederson. “This increases the likelihood of intersection crashes.”

So far in 2008, 23 crashes and 25 fatalities were reported in the Southeast Region consists of Adams, Billions, Bowman, Burleigh, Dunn, Emmons, Golden Valley, Grant, Hettinger, Kidder, McLean, Mercer, Morton, Oliver, Sioux, Slope and Stark counties.
