BISMARCK (AP) — A warrant was issued for a former Bismarck doctor convicted of terrorizing when he didn’t show up for his sentencing.

Emilio Cruz faxed a letter to the judge Friday, saying he was in the process of moving to California and was stuck in Las Vegas because his flight had been canceled due to the snowstorm in Bismarck.

A bond order prohibited Cruz from leaving North Dakota. His attorney said Cruz will return to Bismarck and turn himself in to authorities.

Cruz, a neurologist, was fired at Medcenter One in April. Hospital officials haven’t said why.

His felony terrorizing conviction in July stems from an incident in which authorities say he threatened his girlfriend’s 13-year-old son with a knife. Cruz has denied doing it.
