UND signs players with familiar names

The University of North Dakota has announced the signing of two sons of school Athletic Hall of Famers and an Ohio shooting guard.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — The University of North Dakota has announced the signing of two sons of school Athletic Hall of Famers and an Ohio shooting guard.

Brandon Brekke is a 6-foot-6 forward-center at East Grand Forks (Minn.) High School, with averages of 18 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots a game. His father, Steve Brekke, is a member of UND’s Athletic Hall of Fame and his uncle, Chad Brekke, played for the Sioux men’s basketball team from 1993 to 1996.

Chris Clausen is a 6-foot-6 forward who’s a sophomore at North Iowa Area Community College. He averaged 24 pounds and 13 rebounds as a high school senior. Clausen’s father, Dan, also is a member of the UND Athletic Hall of fame and lettered for the Sioux from 1980 to 1982.

UND also signed Josh Schuler, a 6-2 shooting guard from Urbana, Ohio, who averaged 19 points, three assists and nearly three steals as a junior and entered his senior season with more than 1,100 career points.

UND is in its first season in NCAA Division I.
