Jamestown fire departments awarded grants

Sens. Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan and Rep. Earl Pomeroy, all D-N.D., announced Wednesday that federal grants totaling $218,173 have been awarded to the Jamestown Fire Department and the Jamestown Rural Fire Department to help purchase and improve firefighting equipment.

The grants will provide funding for specialized gear, protective equipment, training and modifications to facilities. The grant is part of the Fiscal Year 2008 Assistance to Firefighters grant program.

The Jamestown Rural Fire Department will receive $126,189. The Jamestown Fire Department will receive $91,984.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded this grant with funds appropriated by Congress.
