Julie Braun, a licensed child care provider from Jamestown, has successfully completed a voluntary quality improvement program called Right from the Start. The program is a project of Lakes & Prairies Child Care Resource and Referral which serves eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota.

Braun has operated a licensed child care business out of her home since 2007.

During the past nine months, Braun had formal assessments of her child care facility using a nationally recognized observation and assessment tool and completed six intensive self-study modules. She also met monthly with a child care consultant as well as receiving consultation visits from a child care health consultant.

The Right from the Start Project supports the strong link between skilled, competent caregivers and high quality care and education for children. Goals of the project are: to develop responsive and appropriate care giving skills of child care providers who care for infants and toddlers, to promote stability of care for infants and toddlers in child care, to increase parent satisfaction with the quality of care their child receives, and to retain child care providers.
