Many want to adopt newborn

An official with Otter Tail County Human Services says a baby boy left at a Fergus Falls hospital this week may have a permanent home by Christmas.

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) — An official with Otter Tail County Human Services says a baby boy left at a Fergus Falls hospital this week may have a permanent home by Christmas.

Brad Vold says Wednesday that more than 50 people have contacted his office, expressing interest in adopting the boy.

The newborn was left at Lake Region Hospital on Monday by an anonymous woman. Police have said the boy might have been born that same day.

The boy was left under Minnesota’s safe haven law, which gives mothers the legal option of giving up unwanted newborns to someone who will care for them.

Vold says that after a background check is done on the selected family, the baby will have a home.
