Opening of new marina is delayed

The rising level of Lake Sakakawea will delay the opening of a new marina at Fort Stevenson State Park.

GARRISON, N.D. (AP) — The rising level of Lake Sakakawea will delay the opening of a new marina at Fort Stevenson State Park.

Initial plans called for it to be open by next Memorial Day, but Park Manager Dick Messerly says a mid- to late-June opening is now expected.

The level of the lake rose more than expected this year. That meant workers had to spent more time raising a coffer dam that kept water out of the marina construction site.

The old marina went dry in 2002 when the lake hit record low levels.
