The guest speaker at the Dec. 8 Kiwanis meeting was Kali Henke, SART Program coordinator.

SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) is relatively new in the Jamestown area and was developed to work together to help victims of sexual assault.?SART is a team of professionals from the local community.?This multi-disciplinary approach coordinates immediate and follow-up medical, advocacy and criminal justice services to sexual assault victims eliminating repetitive and unnecessary questioning, and ensuring correct and accurate collection of evidence.

One of the services provided by this team is a SANE examination completed by a registered nurse who is specially trained to collect, document and preserve evidence.?This exam is completed at Central Valley Health and may be performed with or without the involvement of law en-forcement.

Henke said that drug facilitated sexual assaults are a major concern.

In the last six months 11 sexual assaults were reported in Jamestown and 24 reported during the year 2007.?Statistics indicate that only about 16 percent of sexual assaults are actually reported.?SART services are available at any time and they are also able to provide referrals for other needs.

The next noon Kiwanis meeting is scheduled for Dec. 22 at the Lantern Room.?The scheduled speaker is Rollie Greeno on Indian artifacts.
