Jamestown Optimist club honors athletes
Heidi Engels, Morgan Dale and Andrew Peterson of Jamestown High School were named Jamestown Optimist Athletes of the Week, along with Ali Edwards and Jacob Kelsey of Jamestown College.

Engels, a junior, on the Blue Jay gymnastics team placed in the top three in two events at the Tri-State Classic meet. She placed third on the floor with an 8.6 and had a team season-best 9.1 on the vault. Her vault score was an automatic qualifying score for the state meet.
Dale, a senior, scored 20 points in the Blue Jay girls’ basketball team’s game against Fargo South. She had 27 against Mandan and 15 against Valley City. She totaled 23 rebounds, nine assists and 11 steals in the three games. She also set a school record for free throws made in a single game, converting 18 of 20 against Mandan.
Peterson netted 23 points to help the Blue Jay boys’ basketball team end a 13-year losing streak against Fargo South.
Edwards, a junior from West Fargo, scored 25 points in helping the Jimmie women’s basketball team to two wins in three games. She had seven points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals against Minnesota-Morris. She had nine points and four rebounds against Montana-Western and nine points and seven rebounds against Montana State-Northern.
Kelsey, a junior from Cleburne, Texas, scored 19 points and hit 4 of 6 three-pointers in the Jimmie men’s basketball team’s win over Minnesota-Morris.
