Minot police report more than 200 crashes in December

Minot police say they’ve re-sponded to more than 200 vehicle accidents, all within city limits, during the month of December when winter storms hit the area.

MINOT (AP) — Minot police say they’ve re-sponded to more than 200 vehicle accidents, all within city limits, during the month of December when winter storms hit the area.

Police said a majority of the accidents were caused by drivers who did not allow enough space to stop or slow down, especially near intersections.

Officer Aaron Moss said another common cause of accidents is the failure to take the time to properly scrape off a vehicle’s windshield.

He said the tips for reducing the chances of a winter crash are familiar ones: “Slow down, give yourself extra time to travel. If you don’t have to travel in snowy conditions, certainly don’t. If you must, take it easy on the roads and give yourself extra break time and be aware of other drivers who might not be doing the same.”
