N.D. seeks $3 million for mine cleanup
North Dakota is applying for $3 million in federal money to clean up coal mines that were abandoned before modern reclamation laws.
BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota is applying for $3 million in federal money to clean up coal mines that were abandoned before modern reclamation laws.
Public Service Commissioner Kevin Cramer said that until recently, North Dakota got about $1.5 million from the federal abandoned mines program. He said the commission believes the state is entitled to more money to speed up the reclamation process.
Cramer said the PSC plans a public meeting on abandoned mine land projects in Beulah on Jan. 13.
