Letter to the editor: Why have snowplow gates if they won’t be used at all?

I am commenting on the article about the graders removing the gates on their plows. I am just wondering what the gates are used for? I am assuming they are used for when they come up to a driveway they put the gate down so there is not that much snow to be removed by the homeowner.

Well, over the past few weeks, I have had to shovel at least a 3-foot-high bank from the end of my driveway. So you can’t tell me that they were using the gates and now because?of the large amounts of snow they are going to remove them. Kind of senseless to remove something that has not been used the whole year. If that is the case why even put them on? This comment has nothing to do with the newspaper, it is just about the article that was posted.
