The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of North Dakota, including the Jamestown area, effective from 6 p.m. today through 6 p.m. Friday. The advisory anticipates snowfall amounts of between 5 and 8 inches followed by winds gusting to near 30 miles per hour on Friday.

“It is still an active weather pattern,” said Daryl Ritchison, meteorologist for Forum Communications. “But it has been almost a full week without a storm, a storm a week is pretty typical for this time of year.”

Anyone with travel plans is advised to monitor road and weather reports for the latest information and to have a winter survival kit with them if they must travel.

Ritchison expects the storm to clear out of the area Friday. Looking ahead to next week he doesn’t antici-pate much snow but is forecasting colder weather.

“We’re getting a dump of arctic air next week,” he said. “It could be the coldest air we’ve seen this season.”
