BISMARCK (AP) — A former Bismarck doctor has been ordered to jail for 60 days.

Dr. Emilio Cruz was convicted in July on a terrorizing charge for threatening his girlfriend’s 13-year-old son with a knife. The incident happened in December 2007.

Judge Gail Hagerty was to sentence Cruz in November but he did not appear in court. His attorney said he was in Las Vegas and his flight to Bismarck was canceled due to a snowstorm.

The judge sentenced Cruz to two years in jail with all but 60 days suspended, and ordered him into custody after Thursday’s hearing. He also must pay $525 in court fees and complete anger management counseling.

Cruz, who is a neurologist, was terminated from Bismarck’s Medcenter One in April. His North Dakota license is active through the end of 2009.
