Optimists cite Athletes of Week
Jennifer Kropp and Devyn Schauer of Jamestown High School were named Jamestown Optimist Athletes of the Week, along with Michelle Canete and Sean Blumhardt of Jamestown College.
Jennifer Kropp and Devyn Schauer of Jamestown High School were named Jamestown Optimist Athletes of the Week, along with Michelle Canete and Sean Blumhardt of Jamestown College.
Kropp, a senior on the JHS gymnastics team, had a career-best score of 8.65 on the bars and was again a top placer on the beam with an 8.75. She has reached provisional qualifying standards on the bars, beam and vault.
Schauer, a junior on the JHS hockey team, scored a shorthanded goal in overtime to lift the Blue Jays to a victory at Dickinson. It was his second goal of the game and helped the team pick up a pair of points in the West Region standings.
Canete, a freshman from Kodiak, Alaska, was unbeaten in three duals at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals meet. Canete was competing in the 48 kg division and was the only JC wrestler to go 3-0 in the tournament as JC’s women’s wrestling team finished fifth.
Blumhardt, a freshman from Ellendale, finished second at the Blue Hawk Open with a 3-1 record in the tournament and placed fourth in the Hastings (Neb.) Open with a 4-2 record for a cumulative record of 7-3 on the week, wrestling in the 125 pound division.
