Whisler is an acoustic finger-style guitarist and songwriter. He composes for 12- and 6-string guitars while drawing from American folk, blue, and classical music. His tunes range from fast-paced instrumentals to slower ballads and dissonant free-time melodies. He also blends a bottleneck tone to some of his compositions which utilize alternate tunings.
Although Whisler is mainly a solo guitarist, he does some singing.
