BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A man’s invention to guide medical intravenous tubing has won first place at this year’s Marketplace inventor’s contest.

Robert Heitkamp of Mantador said he came up with the idea for his so-called “site saver” device during a prolonged hospital stay and drew the design on the back of an insurance form. He said it has a series of clips that guide and align the IV tubing.

Heitkamp said he’s hoping to market it after another round of tests. He got $2,500 for winning the contest.
