North Dakota airports to receive $2.1 million in improvement grants

North Dakota airports were awarded more than $2.1 million by the Federal Aviation Administration, Sens. Byron Dorgan and Kent Conrad, D-N.D. and Rep. Earl Pomeroy announced today.
The $2,155,120 in federal funding will go toward construction, maintenance and planning projects at 16 North Dakota airports. The Jamestown Regional Airport is set to receive about $30,000 to use for runway rehabilitation.
These grants were awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation with funds appropriated by Congress.
Among other recipients is Bismarck Municipal Airport, which will receive $561,975 to continue its taxiway construction project. Also, Grand Forks International Airport will receive $371,734 to help design and construct a new airport passenger terminal. The current terminal has been found to be deficient in many areas.
“These funds will help with improvements at many North Dakota airports, giving a boost to the state’s commerce infrastructure,” the delegation said in a joint statement. “And by making travel easier, they will help the state continue its nationally recognized economic activity.”
Other grant recipients include:
* Fort Yates: $267,085 for runway rehabilitation
* Cavalier: $199,612 for runway rehabilitation and to purchase snow removal equipment
* Garrison $160,000 for runway rehabilitation and to purchase snow removal equipment
* Valley City: $88,295 for runway rehabilitation
* Rugby: $80,000 to update the airport’s master plan
* Bowman: $75,000 to update the airport’s master plan
* Langdon: $70,000 for terminal remodeling and for apron and runway rehabilitation
* Harvey: $62,275 to construct a fueling system and to enhance aircraft operation safety
* Gwinner: $44,434 to construct an access road, apron, taxiway, and to rehabilitate a runway
* Lisbon: $42,559 to construct a fueling system and widen the taxiway
* Ellendale: $40,000 to continue construction of a new terminal and for runway rehabilitation
* Carrington: $33,535 for apron rehabilitation
* Edgeley: $28,600 to design a new taxiway and for runway rehabilitation
